Planned Parenthood Statewide Lobby Day
Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri held their final lobby day of the 2015 session on Thursday, May 7th. Twenty-four participants held meetings with 28 targeted state Senators and Representatives. Volunteer lobbyists discussed a dangerous consent bill for minors (HB 81) and an inspection mandate that singles out abortion providers (HB190) with legislators and urged them to vote “no” on these bills to in order to protect Missouri women’s health.
Additionally, the group held a meeting with Governor Jay Nixon’s office on sex education in Missouri schools. Advocates urged Gov. Nixon to sign HB 501, which requires sex education course materials to contain information regarding sexual predators, online predators, and the consequences of inappropriate text messaging. Several members of the group delivered personal testimony in support of comprehensive sex education as a necessary next step in Missouri schools, contained in SB 418.
Overall, the day was a huge success. We hope you’ll join us next session for more critical action at the Missouri Capitol!

Capitol Day of Action to Close the Coverage Gap: Make Your Voice Heard on May 13!
The Missouri legislature is less than one week away from failing, once again, to close the coverage gap for the 300,000 uninsured Missourians who need access to health care. It is an outrage that lawmakers are this close to leaving hardworking Missourians out in the cold once again – a failure that will lead to unnecessary deaths in the next year. Join the Missouri Medicaid Expansion Coalition on Wednesday, May 13 from 9:30am-1:45pm and raise your voice on behalf of those who need Medicaid expansion.
